Thanks for the feedback Garry.

First let me compliment you on your well written and informative site. I especially like the way it is objective, with the little 'cavat emptor' warning.....
....Oh, and the 'otter' you saw, most probably was a 'ragondin' (what we call a beaver-rat' in Holland)

Thanks for the coypus link Gregor, very interesting. As we cross the bridge most nights to get to the bar we should have plenty of opportunities to spot it again and confirm whether it is indeed a coypus.

Hi
Thank you for your informative site. I am in the process of the french property purchase, learning the language and setting off on that adventure you talk about in your tales.
Your stories are both funny and helpful and I can very much relate to the getting it wrong aspects of trying to speak French. Nice to know I'm not alone!!!
Good tips on the buying front as well.
Donna

Thanks for the comments, Donna, and good luck with your 'adventure'.
Nick.

Good

Hi
My wife and I have just started thinking about our retirements, 13 more years!, we currently live in rented accommodation and have been discussing purchasing a house in the UK, however we feel the French climate would suit our "bones" more. So we have decided to spend the next two years feverishly saving and purchase a "habitable" property over there with the view to spending the next ten years making it more habitable, whilst renting over here. I therefore started the usual Internet trawl of looking at costs, taxes, where to move to etc etc, and stumbled across your site, I have just spent the last hour transfixed to the information pages and the wonderful tales you tell, your writing very much reminds me of Derek Longden who always makes me smile, and I will use your website as first point of reference and as a way of cheering me up during the next two years.
Long may it continue.
Kindest regards
Michael

Thanks for the kind comments Michael. I wish you all the best with your plan.
Kind regards, Nick.

Having spent an uncomfortable morning trying to be understood by a french immobilier as we look for our new life in the charente, I found your descriptions and stories both helpful and very amusing. You have a very natural and entertaining style of writing. You should write a book! Thanks for helping us to see the funny side of our mad choice to move to france before we learn french!
Fran

Thanks for the feedback Fran. Glad you enjoyed the stories.
There's some wonderful countryside in Poitou-Charante: I did this painting from one of our visits there, and used parts of it for the graphics for this site (the head and the sidebar.)
Very best of luck with your search.
Kind regards, Nick.

Hi, just finished reading your Tales from France files and enjoyed them very much.
I am originally from the UK and now living in Australia (Perth) having spent a lovely holiday touring France in the summer of 2012, I am hankering after a return.
I am looking for a property south of the Loire and North of the Lot.
I will keep reading and again thanks for a very easy and informative read.
regards
David

Thanks for the feedback David. Pleased that you enjoyed the 'tales'.
Between the Loire, and the Lot: lovely countryside. The Lot itself, is spectacular.
Good luck with it.
Kind regards, Nick.

Hi Nick, Thank you so much for your website, it is extremely helpful for someone who is thinking about buying a house in France (in a 'veeeeeeery' distant future). I've had fun reading your adventures in France. French was the second language that I learned when I was a kid but now I have several problems trying to remember vocabulary and some verbs -my native language is Spanish. I'll keep checking your website!
Best,
Francisco

Thanks Francisco. I'm sure it will all come back to you with practise. Hope you don't drop as many clangers as I seem to do when I attempt to converse in French! All the best with your efforts.
Kind regards, Nick.
